Petrobras CEO Jose Sergio Gabrielli has taken part in a Global Pact Meeting at UN Headquarters in New York, part of preparations for the Rio +20 Corporate Sustainability Forum, set to take place during June 2012 in Brazil. The forum is a key facet in the Rio +20 Conference on Sustainable Development, which will see heads of state from around the world – and, for the first time, private companies – coming together to discuss sustainability and protecting the environment.
The New York meeting was organised to lay the groundwork for corporate participation in the conference, which will see over 100 CEOs from the world of business participating in an effort to strengthen the business contribution to sustainable development globally. Themes discussed at the meeting include climate and energy, governance and combating corruption, research and education.
Petrobras has formed a working group, consisting of employees from the main areas of the company and its subsidiaries for its participation in Rio +20. The group will prepare proposals across a range of issues to be discussed in the forum, and also engage in discussions and preparatory meetings ahead of the event.
