Fuel pricing and retail location technology company KSS Fuels has revealed that many of the retailers it talked to at this year’s NACS Show in Las Vegas expressed concerns about thin margins, falling demand and unpredictable pricing. KSS, which talked to over 70 fuel retailers at the show, said that store operators are having to change their tactics in order to cope with changes in the market and in consumer behaviour.
Lowering maintenance costs, employing cloud-based solutions and understanding changes in consumer demand are some of the changes that employers have had to undertake, KSS said.
“Our discussions with retailers at the NACS show highlighted the challenges many retailers are facing today, and with no immediate let-up in sight, many of them are looking to apply business intelligence and advanced analytics to their data to see if they can find answers,” explained Bob Stein, chief executive at KSS Fuels.
“Many have spent considerable time and money gathering data and looking to suppliers like KSS Fuels to help with the analytics they need to extract actionable information.”
Many of the retailers also said that in their experience cloud-based operating systems allow the barriers of entry for smaller chains or single stores to be lowered.
