The shutdown of Grangemouth oil refinery has been completed in preparation for a two-day strike by staff over pensions.
The Ineos plant which is Scotland's main fuel supplier, processing
210,000 barrels of oil a day has never been completely shut down.
Following
the strike scheduled for Sunday it could take up to three weeks for the
plant to get back up to full production capacity.
Last minute talks between Unite and Ineos are believed to be taking place.
In normal circumstances, there would be no problem for fuel supplies. A number of organisations including the Petrol Retailers Association have been highlighting the fact there is enough fuel to go around. However panic buying by consumers in many parts of the UK will create fuel shortages over the coming days.
