New Allied Petroleum service station defies rural trend of site
closures with Blair and Robin Irwin opening their new service station
in Winton this month.
Leased from Allied Petroleum, the new garage means the return of
that brand after the previous outlet, McKay Motors, closed in August
2005. Apart from the new building, two new 30,000 litre tanks were
installed. One, a split one, holds 91 and 95-octane petrol and the
other is for diesel.
Forecourt customers will have the choice of eight pumps with trucks
having their own 24-hour diesel supply point at the side. The Irwins,
intend to hire six staff for the business that will run seven days a
week.
Winton Community Board chairman John McHugh welcomed the addition of
another garage as another pleasing sign of the substantial growth of
the town. It's another positive indication of how the town was going, he said.
