Shell lubricants has marked five years as the world’s leading lubricant supplier, according to the latest market research by Kline and Company. The study found that Shell have over 13% of the worldwides lubricant market in 2010, 2% more than its nearest rival.
Mark Gainsborough, Shell’s Head of Lubricants, said the success could be attributed to the company selling of lubricants through distributors. “In 2010, we more than doubled average distributor volumes compared to 2009,” he noted.
Global demand for lubricant products grew by 6% on 2009, with the United States still the largest single market by volume. However, its share of demand fell from 25% to 23% year-on-year. Kline’s research identified key emerging markets – including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Korea – as the main opportunity areas for lubricant companies.
