USA: Pennsylvania Preparing for First Fuel Testing Bill

Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett (pictured) is preparing to sign a fuel testing bill into law, media in the state is reporting. The new legislation, Senate Bill 341, was prompted by requests from several of the state's lawmakers and means that motorists in the state will now be guaranteed fuel that is up to code with federal requirements. At present Pennsylvania is one of only three states in the US that does not have rules regarding fuel testing.
"We expect that when you pay for a premium gallon, you get a premium gallon," said American Autmobile Association (AAA) spokesman Shawn Kemp. "We look at it from the fact that consumers are paying more at the pump, the price of food is going up. The economy, the performance is sluggish at the best of times, so every nickel counts."
Kemp also said that the AAA is trying to look out for the interests of motorists and that many are counting their pennies at the pump.
The new bill will see fuel companies' tanks tested for their octane levels, the burden of which will fall on the Department of Agriculture.
