BP Products North America has announced plans to invest $500m in its U.S. retail brand as part of an "aggressive" effort to regain its position as "the leading fuels marketer east of the Rockies". The campaign, unveiled at the 2012 BP Amoco Marketers Association (BPAMA) Convention and Business Expo in Orlando will include a fuel relaunch, a new marketing programme and new loyalty technology across the retail network.

7-Eleven has agreed to acquire 55 Sam's Mart convenience stores in North and South Carolina and convert them to 7-Eleven stores this year as part of the Dallas-based convenience retailer's accelerated growth plan. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but the transaction is expected to close in February, subject to standard closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

Chevron Corporation has reported a fall in quarterly earnings as refining losses in the United States drove its downstream division as a whole into loss-making territory. Profit dropped to $5.1bn, down from $5.3bn in the same period last year.

As part of its overall loyalty programme, ExxonMobil plans to launch a pilot test of Shopkick, a smartphone app that awards consumers points just for entering a store. More points can then be earned by scanning a product's barcode or making purchases, and users can then exchange these points at any retailer that is part of the Shopkick alliance, which includes Home Depot, Target, Macy's, Toys R Us, Old Navy and Best Buy, as well as more than 30 large brands such as Gerber, Procter & Gamble, Revlon and Levi’s.

An independent analysis by the citizen energy-independence advocacy group Energy Alternatives for the 21st Century (EA-21) has confirmed that the United States and North America as a wjp;e can become energy independent in the near future. However, EA-21 has also raised concerns that Washington policy-makers may hamper the development needed to achieve this.

7-Eleven has announced the completion of a deal acquire retail interests in 51 north Texas ExxonMobil sites, though full terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The majority of these locations will be rebranded as 7-Eleven stores, though the stations will retain the Exxon gasoline brand. This will allow consumers to continue to purchase Exxon fuels and use their ExxonMobil credit cards and Speedpass devices.

Lehig Gas Corporation has announced that it is selling 26 fuel service stations and one truck stop as it seeks to redeploy capital to other areas of the business. 16 non-strategic sites in New Jersey, one site each in New York and Ohio, and nine in Pennsylvania – including the truck stop – have been offered for sale.

Gasbuddy has unveiled its forecasts for fuel prices over the next year in its Annual Fuel Price Outlook. The Fuel price tracking company projects that prices could once again breach the $4 per gallon barrier in April, edging towards $5 per gallon in some markets on Labor Day.

BJ’s Wholesale Club has announced its adoption of PriceAdvantage from Skyline Products across its 107 BJ's Gas fuel service stations. All stations have completed the rollout of the fuel price management solution, with initial tests suggesting a saving of 3-4 hours a day from the system.
