Fuel service station operator Copec has admitted that it mistakenly provided gasoline oil rather than gasoline to 65 vehicles at one of its San Antonio stations. The operator said that a mistake was made when it reloaded the tank from which the fuel is drawn, with an engineer wrongly attaching the incorrect container.
“The most likely cause is an operational error in the download process of the fuel,” said an investigator.
The company has offered to inspect each of the affected engines and provide repairs free of charge if any of the vehicles are damaged. Filling a car up with oil can cause serious damage to the engine, say experts, and is much worse than making the common mistake of filling with diesel instead of petrol.
The station is located on Lauro Barros street.
