Petrobras and its main union held talks Wednesday to try and negotiate
an end to a strike that threatens to widen into a national oil workers'
stoppage.
The meeting was held on the third day of a five-day strike called by the United Oil Workers Federation (FUP) .
So far, the company has limited the effects of the strike with
contingency plans as outlined by PetorlWorld news earler this week.
The FUP has said that if the talks fail, the strike will broaden to
include refineries and lead to a new national strike
of oil workers could take begin on August 5, possibly for an indefinite
duration. "Petrobras will almost certainly assemble contingency teams
for the refineries, but our aim is not to stop production but rather to
send a warning," he said.
Negotiations were taking place in Petrobras's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.
