England, UK: FPS to Introduce New Fuel Standards Scheme |

The Federation of Petroleum Suppliers has said that it will be introducing a new fuel standards scheme in order to protect its members against claims of contaminated fuel. The scheme, which will be undertaken with the help of OTS Tank Care and Scarlett Systems, will aim to ensure that transported fuel does not become contaminated after the delivery process has been completed. FDS distributors CPL Petroleum, based in Thurrock, and Turriff Fuels of Aberdeenshire, have already begun implementation.
“Fuel quality has moved up the agenda. With the introduction of the new biofuels and the current FAME content up 7%, better housekeeping is essential throughout the supply chain,” commented the chief executive of the oil distribution association, Mark Askew.
“The FPS scheme sets standards for fuel testing, cleansing and best practice for preventing contamination by water, particulates and microbial growth in storage tanks,” he explained.
Askew said that firms will be able to draw a line under any claim that contamination came about during the distribution process once they implement the scheme. He also said that the benefits could reach end users, who may also learn to take better care of their tanks because of the scheme.
