Royal Dutch Shell has announced that it has appointed current executive vice-president of chemicals Ben van Beurden (pictured) as its new Downstream Director. Van Beurden has been at Shell since 1983, and has worked all over the world with the company, including in its Dutch, African, British and American businesses. He holds a masters degree in chemical engineering.

Van Beurden will assume his new role as of January 1, taking over from Mark Williams, who is leaving Shell after working at the company for over 30 years.
