Gulf Oil has signalled that it is ready to accommodate alternative fuel powered vehicles by announcing the opening of a new E85 fuel service station on the Massachusetts Turnpike. The new station will be opened at the Charlton East plaza, the company said, and will provide for customers with Flex Fuel vehicles. There are more than 100,000 Flex Fuel vehicles registered in the state, the oil firm said.

“We are proud to be among the first to open alternative fuelling locations, and we look forward to the day when we can offer more choices, primarily from our domestic sources, such as E85, biodiesel, compressed natural gas and liquefied natural gas,” said Ron Sabia, President and Chief Operating Officer of Gulf Oil.

“By working with our partners at Energy and Environmental Affairs and Gulf Oil, we are able to now offer travellers three fuelling locations along the Massachusetts Turnpike and also our GreenDOT goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” said Richard A Davey, Chief Executive at the state’s Department of Transport.

The first E85 station opened by Gulf in Massachusetts was at Logan Airport in 2008. There are more than 2,400 such stations in the country, according to data from the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition.
