Engen Petroleum Limited, South Africa’s leading petroleum marketing company has signed Share Purchase Agreements for Chevron’s downstream interests in seven countries in Sub Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands. The deal involves the acquisition of 100% of Chevron downstream marketing companies in Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Mauritius, Reunion and Zimbabwe, as well as the assets of Chevron in Mozambique.

Burger King has been sold to 3G Capital, a private equity firm backed by three of Brazil's best-known businessmen, in a deal worth $4bn (£2.6bn). The $24-a-share agreement is 46% more than Burger King shares closed at on August 31st, the day before rumours of a deal surfaced and sent the shares soaring by 15%.

ConocoPhillips has signed a five-year agreement for Wright Express Corp. to provide private-label fleet card services for the oil company. Under the terms of the agreement, Wright Express will issue fleet cards and provide related services to all three brands affiliated with ConocoPhillips' motor fuels: Conoco, Phillips 66 and 76.

NAMCOR is negotiating with the Botswana government to supply fuel to the country as the state-owned enterprise widens its downstream business scope to try and make more money. The company will also launch an automotive lubricant distribution business and construct bulk fuel depots countrywide in Namibia, Namcor’s Petroleum Downstream Manager Patty Olivier and public relations officer Katrina Sikeni stated.

The Pantry, an independently operated C-Store chain in the southeastern U.S., signed a definitive agreement to acquire 47 C-Stores located in Kansas and Missouri from Presto Convenience Stores. “This acquisition expands our geographic footprint and creates new fill-in opportunities for future growth,” The Pantry President and Chief Executive Officer Terrance M. Marks said in a statement.

Britain's Tesco is among more than 10 bidders for Carrefour's assets in the region, which total 61 stores in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Singapore-based retail group Dairy Farm and French retailer Casino are also in the bidding, but US titan Wal-Mart has not entered the race.
