Petrol retailer Total Oil has responded to a recent fall in oil prices
by cutting the cost of a litre of unleaded petrol and diesel by 3p just
days after BP and supermarkets ASDA and Morrisons took similar steps.
Total Oil started the trend by reducing the price of fuel at all 285 of its petrol stations by 3p a litre and petrol retail giants Esso and Shell have hinted they may follow suit.
Alan Nicholson, managing director of Nicholson Transport, in Little Driffield said the fall in fuel prices is a step in the right direction but insists it is still early days. Mr Nicholson said: "It's going the right way but I would like to see it back down to 70p a litre but I don't think it will. We are getting deeper and deeper into a recession and the demand for work is down as well."
The average price of petrol is now down to 110p a litre, while diesel has fallen below 120p a litre, but Mr Nicholson said there could still be a long way to go before the storm passes.
