A national car care
company is launching National Oil Check Day on Friday 25 July, urging
all motorists ‘Don’t be a Dipstick’: check your oil to avoid
breakdowns, costly repairs and huge inconvenience.
The campaign by Comma is hosted at www.checkyouroil.co.uk , and is
designed to highlight the need for the UK's motorists to maintain their
cars, rather than rely on modern technology to keep their vehicles on
the road.
All too often, motorists do not recognise the seriousness of
their oil warning light coming on, preferring instead to view it as
they do the petrol light and assuming they have plenty of time to top
up the level.
“In fact, by the time the oil light illuminates on your
dashboard, you may only have a handful of miles before serious, and
expensive, damage is caused to your engine,” explains Comma’s Mike
Bewsey.
The standard engine rebuild cost for the UK's most popular buy,
the Ford Focus, is £1,148, according to Europe’s leading technical data
supplier, Autodata.
