A ‘pay at the pump’ chip and pin service is being put in so
customers can pay without having to enter the petrol station shop and
queue at the till.
To use the new system, customers insert their
chip and pin card, enter their pin, remove their card then commence
fuelling and replace the nozzle when done. Customers will still
be able to collect ‘Morrisons miles’ points and get VAT receipts via
the new terminals.
The
company said the service will be particularly useful for people with
small children as they will not have to leave them unattended in the
car while paying at the kiosk. It should also speed up the
process and cut down on long queues of traffic waiting to fill up.
Andrew
Kendall, store general manager at Morrisons Carlisle said: “If you’ve
just finished your shopping and need petrol, but are in a rush or don’t
want to leave your car unattended because its full of kids, our new pay
at pump technology will speed up your stop and means you don’t need to
leave your car unattended. “But if you’ve want to pay with cash
or have a chip and pin card but still want to go in the shop – to buy a
paper or a snack – you can still pay at the kiosk. Just press the ‘pay
at kiosk’ button before you start filling.”
