James Thornton has been appointed as the new Finance Director for Euro Garages, one of the UK’s largest independent fuel retailers. Thornton, who previously worked at accountancy firm PwC and served as Financial Director for Cloverleaf Restaurants, joins the Blackburn-based group as it seeks continued expansion.
Euro Garages has a network of 70 freehold-owned fuel service stations, and also has partnerships with international brands such as Starbucks and Subway. The company reported turnover of £305m in the year to 31 July 2011, up 7% on the preceding year. Profits rose by 26% to £12m.
“With a proven track record in supporting high-growth, multi-site businesses, James’ expertise is an ideal match for the business,” remarked Euro Garages Chief Executive Zuber Issa. “His arrival comes at an exciting time, having recently raised significant new funding to accelerate our expansion through new acquisitions and continued investment in our existing estate,” he added.
Thornton was also quick to stress the growth opportunities that Euro Garages offered for the company. “Euro Garages is an innovative player in a dynamic market which presents significant opportunities for growth. I’m excited about the current prospects for the group and look forward to supporting an excellent management team,” he said.
