Supermarket chains Tesco & Asda have gone public in their fight for
Xmas shoppers by cutting fuel prices by up to 3p a litre at the pumps.
Asda was first to announce the price cuts for unleaded petrol and
diesel, soon followed by Tesco, as the retailers passed on a drop in
wholesale oil prices to customers. Asda said drivers filling up at its
179 forecourts across the UK would pay no more than 103.9 pence per
litre for unleaded and 105.9ppl for diesel. Before the weekend, average
UK pump prices were standing at 108.99ppl for petrol and 110.26ppl for
diesel, so motorists filling up a 55-litre tank at Asda this weekend
will save an average £2.75.
