KPS have received an ATEX-certificate for a plastic petrol pipe system.
It is the French test institute INERIS that, after testing of the
pipes, has issued a letter of conformity to the Atex 1999/92/EC User
directive for KPS’s range of conductive pipes.
To be able to comply with the Atex user directive it must be
possible to ground the pipes to earth, which gives an additional safety
since static electricity is eliminated. In this way, the use of
conductive pipes gives a safer installation than non-conductive pipes
can do.
Says Mr Boudalaa of INERIS: “The article 4 of the European directive
1999/92/EC evokes the fact that the evaluation of the risks of
explosions needs to take into account the possibility that ignition
sources, including static discharging, be present and may become
active.”
Mr Boudalaa continues: “To prevent these risks, KPS has chosen to use a
conductive liner of the single and double wall plastic petrol pipes.
After tests and verifications in accordance with the relevant
standards, INERIS confirms that the KPS products with this liner are
conform for use of transportation of petroleum liquids of group IIA and
IIB, for which the internal atmosphere may be of type 0, 1 and 2.”
Thomas Andersson, President of KPS: “The Atex-directives, the European
standards, oil company safety standards and different national
legislations already demand that static electricity be taken into
account and eliminated if possible. And KPS conductive pipes, it is not
only possible, it’s easy and cost effective!”
