Russia: Shell Aiming to Double Retail Presence – Report

Shell is aiming to double the number of fuel service stations it operates in Rusia by 2015, according to Interfax. Citing “a source from Moscow’s retail fuel market”, the news agency aid that LLC Shell Oil, which owns 75 stations at present, intends to acquires stations or land plots in Moscow, St. Petersburg, the Moscow region and the Leningrad region. The company currently owns stations in the Leningrad and Moscow regions, along with the Lipetsk, Tula, Tver, Vologda and Yaroslavl regions.
“In Moscow, Shell is interested in practically everything. In Petersburg not so much, because there are more filling stations there and more of a presence there,” claimed Interfax’s source. The company is also interested in stations on federal highways, according to the reports.
While Shell did not comment on the specific report, it noted that it had already expressed its intentions to expand in the Central and North-West Federal Districts. It has also posted an advertisement on its website expressing interest in acquiring new stations.
