Russia: Lukoil President Dismisses Interest in Repsol YPF Argentina

Not for the first time, Mr Vagit Alekperov President of Lukoil has
dismissed suggestions on the companies interest in The Argetninian unit
of Repsol YPF. Mention was also made of Bashkir and reference to last weeks announcement made by AFK Sistema.
Mr Alekperov said Lukoil was not interested in the Argentine assets
of Spanish Repsol. He said that "We are not looking at separate assets.
In general, I won't comment on Repsol. It is a much politicized
project."
He was also quoted as saying that the company is not examining
opportunities to acquire Bashkortostan fuel companies from AFK
Sistema. He said that "The Bashkir assets were not
considered." Sistema acquired controlling stakes in Bashneft,
Ufaneftechim, Novoil Ufaorgsintez, Ufimsky NPZ and Bashkirnefteproduct
in April 2009.
Last week Sistema, one of the largest diversified public
financial corporations in Russia and the CIS, which invests in and is a
major shareholder of companies operating in different industries,
announced that it has submitted a mandatory offer to the Federal
Financial Markets Service to acquire minority shares in ANK Bashneft
JSC, in accordance with the Russian Federal Law on Joint Stock
Companies. Sistema acquired a controlling stake in ANK Bashneft
JSC in April 2009. The details of the offer will be published
following the receipt of the approval from FFMS.
The Bashkirs, are Turkic people indigenous to Bashkortostan, Russia.
Groups of Bashkirs also live in the republic of Tatarstan, as well as
in Perm Krai and Chelyabinsk, Orenburg, Kurgan, Sverdlovsk, Samara, and
Saratov Oblasts of Russia.
