Romanian oil producer Rompetrol has announced that it has upgraded the fuel production process at its oil refinery to process Euro-5 grade fuel. The producer made the announcement through its public relations department, saying that the total investment it made in upgrading the facility was around $380m.
“Rompetrol has successfully completed modernisation of the Petromidia oil refinery, increasing its processing capacity from 3.8 to 5 million tonnes of oil products and switching to production of Euro-5 standard fuel bringing the production volume in line with the demand for oil products in Romania and the Black Sea region,” the company said.
The company began the modernisation process in 2006 after it announced upgrades much of its infrastructure, including a $50m investment in its transport and logistics business and the undertaking of several ecological projects.
“Petromedia oil refinery is an important asset for KazMunaiGas and Rompetrol, as it has the capacity to process the oil the Urals brand supplied from Kazakhstan,” explained Daniyar Berlibayev, the first deputy chairman at KazMunaiGas. “Completion of this project complies with the goal of KazMunaiGas to devlop export oil routes to the European markets by securing the company’s presence in the Black Sea and Mediterranean regions.”
