Repsol has signed an agreement to sell burger king fast food products across its Spanish retail network. The offering will begin with four fuel service stations in Madrid, but Repsol plans to invest €50m to extend Burger King outlets to 150 sites.
Repsol’s own staff will operate the sites, which will trade as Auto King facilities. These autonomous restaurants are attached to fuel service stations, and feature a kitchen, toilets and a dozen employees. Repsol will employ 1,500 people to staff the restaurants.
The deal will make Repsol the largest Burger King franchisee in the European Union, and one of the largest in the world. Only one franchisee in Europe – a Turkish firm with 500 outlets – will have more Burger King restaurants.
