The only news of change coming from the Polish service stations statistics published by the Polish Oil Production and Marketing Association is the fact that the BP branded network has closed the gap on Grupa Lotos which is ranked 2nd after PKN Orlen.
The Polish oil Production & Marketing Association did not product to many surprises in its recently published statistics of the Polish market.
At
the end of Q1, PKN Orlen remained the market leader by a wide margin
with 1,888 stations. In the top ten are Lotos (346). BP (343) Shell (315) and Statoil
(253), followed by Lukoil (105) and Neste (100). Lotos has been restructuring and repositioning itself. As a result Lotos' network shrank
from 379 at the end of 2007 as the company continued to phase out its
"partner station" model, deemed as inefficient. Most owners of partner stations are encouraged to join
the company's franchise scheme, which currently consists of 71 stations
and is expected to reach 80 by the end of the year. Lotos also plans to
open between 10-20 new own outlets this year. Lotos aims to take 10% of
the Polish market by value by 2012, up from 6-7% at the moment.
BP's
share is thought to be above 10% and intends to
maintain its current rate of expansion. In 2007
the company added 20 new stations.
