Topaz has appointed John Williamson (pictured) as the new Chief Executive of Ireland's largest fuel and convenience retailer. Williamson, previously Chief Financial Officer of the Company, succeeds Eddie O'Brien, who resigned his post to take an international role with DCC.
John Williamson joined Topaz in 2009, with a CV including a spell as Chief Financial Officer of Payzone plc. Chairman Neil O'Leary expressed his confidence in Williamson as he announced the appointment. “John has made a very strong impact as CFO during what has been a difficult environment for retail companies generally. He is exceptionally well suited to lead the business through the coming years and we are looking forward very much to working with him in this new role,” he remarked.
“This is a fantastic company to work for and it’s a great honour to be appointed as Chief Executive. I’m particularly conscious of the strength in depth of our senior management team and I look forward to working with them in the coming years to bring this company on from strength to strength,” said Williamson.
Topaz, privately owned by Ion Equity, posted strong results for the year ending March 31 2010, with operating profit of €21m.
