Topaz has handed over control of the company’s landmark tank farm at
Galway docks to the organisers for the visit of the Volvo Round World
Ocean yacht race. The move will facilitate the preparation of the site

The company has moved its bulk fuel storage facilities to the
Enwest facility outside of the docks area from where it will supply
over 400 million litres of fuel to support the economy in the West of
Ireland. The demolition of the tanks is being co-ordinated
by ‘Lets Do It Galway’ – the organising committee for the Galway
leg of the Volvo Round World Ocean race. Topaz has signed a
licensing agreement with the organisation under which ‘Lets Do It
Galway’ will be responsible for the clearance of the site and the
preparation of a tented village in time for the arrival of the yachts
in the Ocean race on 23rd of May.
Following the race, Topaz has said that it work with interested parties
with a view to maximising the development potential for the area which
is adjacent to Eyre Square in the centre of Galway.
