The government of Georgia passed a resolution to postpone the introduction of new petrol and diesel standards.
The new standards under the previous decision were to be introduced in
January 1, 2009, and would cause the cessation of fuel imports from
Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, since the two countries would not be able
to meet the new requirements."Now, consumers will be able to purchase
cheaper fuel from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan," Vano Mtvralashvili,
head of the Georgian Association of Oil Products Enterprisers,
Importers, and Consumers, said.
As Samson Pkhakadze, Chairman of Wissol Board of Directors
commented, `Even though fuel standards in Georgia is far from
contemporary European one as it regulates Euro 1 standard at this
moment Wissol has been importing Euro 4 standards Api Italian fuel
since 2007 and from December 2008 we started to offer Euro 5 standard
fuel to your customers. Euro 5 standard fuel that is to be officially
regulated from 1 January 2009 even in Europe is environmentally
friendly product that cares not only about human health but about a car
engine as well.
