The European Commission has relaunched its competition investigation
into a possible $20bn hostile takeover by OMV, the Austrian
energy major, of Mol, its Hungarian peer.
Competition
Commissioner Neelie Kroes suspended the investigation on 5 May after
OMV had failed to produce enough information on the potential overlap
of petrol station ownership between the companies.
This is one of several potential Central Europe monopolies that the commission is understood to have identified.
However,
OMV has since provided the necessary details, and Ms Kroes is
understood to have ordered officials to start
looking at the deal again.
