A Private Members Bill set to be tabled by Conservative Party MP Robert Halfon (pictured) to make fuel pricing more transparent has received the backing of the Road Haulage Association, which says that the move could benefit the economy as a whole and not just the haulage industry.
This initiative will serve as a real wake up call to users of road fuels – petrol or diesel,” said Kate Gibbs, a spokesperson for the RHA. “Filling the tank, regardless of size, has always been costly. If the cost of the fuel duty and VAT is clearly shown on the receipt, it will make users far more aware of where their money is going.”
Gibbs said that the price of fuel has become a far-reaching political issue and that the move affects everyone.
