Bulgaria: Gazprom Establishing Local Fuel Retail Stake

Russian energy firm Gazprom is planning to enter the local fuel retail market, according to the Bulgarian Petroleum and Gas Association (BPGA). The company has begun buying fuel service stations in Bulgaria through its Serbian subsidiary, Naftna Industrija Srbije, and is aiming for a market share of roughly 8% according to BPGA Chairman Andrey Delchev.
NIS has agreed to purchase several fuel service stations operated by Geriya EOOD, Ir Max EOOD, B Plus OOD, Gand Oil OOD, Tim Oil OOD, Arena – I.T. EOOD. The company, NIS Petrol EOOD, was registered in late August in Bulgaria. Media reports have claimed that NIS is in talks with Petrol. At present, Bulgaria has 3122 fuel service stations, of which 1300 belong to BPGA members.
