Optima has confirmed that it is considering an offer to by OMV’s fuel service station network in Crotia and Bosnia. General Manager Jurij Belov said that acquiring the stations would be compatible with the company’s long-term goals of expansion across the Balkans. "We are seriously considering this situation and we are very interested in entering the Croatian market and taking over OMV's retail chain there, as well as in Bosnia," he said.
OMV last week confirmed that it plans to sell its Croatian and Bosnian downstream units to rebalance its portfolio in favour of upstream operations. The company operates 63 fuel service stations in Croatia and 13 stations in Bosnia. Optima, a subsidiary of Russian firm Neftegazinkor, operates Bosnia’s sole oil refinery, a motor oil plant, and a retail network of 88 fuel service stations under the Nestro brand in Bosnia. It has earmarked $200m for expanding its retail chain up to 2015.
