Azerbaijan: No Date set for SOCAR Service Station Opening

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) remains evasive on exact
date for the opening of its the first servcie stations under its own
brand in the country.
Press-service of SOCAR reported to local media this week “For the
time being, only 3 stations will be opened, but the exact date of their
opening are unknown for the present.”. It has been reported by
PetrolWorld earlier in the year that Earlier that they would be opened
by the end of September 2009.
Rovnag Abdullayev, president of SOCAR said according to the
presidential order, it had prepared development plan for opening the
servcie stations in the country under SOCAR brand. It is envisgaed that
they will launch in 2009 and that the total number planned at this
stage is 26 service stations.
This year SOCAR has already invested AZN 10 million in charter capital
of Joint venture for Socar Petroleum. Other loans and finace will
be raised by the JV itself. Socar will also develop its network
through dealers and where possible acquisition of other brands.
Currently servcie stations under SOCAR brand are operating only in
Georgia where SOCAR Energy Georgia owns network of about 23 petrol
stations.
