Itochu and Family Mart have teamed up to allow Japanese consumers in earthquake-affected areas to shop by exchanging their Reconstruction Assistance Housing Eco-points for new Eco-point Exchangeable Shopping Coupons.
The scheme, which will begin on February 1, will see coupons issued and used in 920 Family Mart stares in the specified ‘distress area’ of 220 cities, towns and villages in 10 prefectures of eastern Japan. Applications for exchanging coupons are already being received.
Under the Reconstruction Assistance Housing Eco-point System, consumers receive points for constructing environmentally friendly housing or improve the environment. These points can be exchanged for reconstruction assistance products and, under the new scheme, essentials from Family Mart. Itochu has been designated as the operator of the ‘Fami-port’ eco-point exchange terminals in Family Mart Stores.
