Vietnam’s Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality, has taken samples of fuel from local retailers following a number of vehicle fires breaking out in both motorbikes and cars. The agency’s Deputy Chief Executive, Tran Van Vinh (pictured), said that the probe was especially focused on stations where vehicle owners had bought fuel before fires took place, and stressed the need for patience a test results are awaited. “We will not let people wait too long,” he said.
Speaking to reporters, Vinh said the situation was caused after 11 fuel marketers in Ho Chi Minh city were reported for selling low performance gasoline labelled as higher-performing product. Vinh explained that, to improve performance, other traders mixed some additives into their products, which the agency suspects are related to the fires.
