Print E-mail
Thursday, 26 November 2009
Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the world's largest company solely focused on data warehousing and enterprise analytics, announced today that Korea Seven, Inc. (www.7-eleven.co.kr), the regional group of 7-Eleven stores, will expand its Teradata data warehouse platform. The 7-Eleven retail group represents the world’s largest operator, franchisor and licensor of convenience store outlets.

The enhanced Teradata system will be used to provide business intelligence for decision making with a focus on merchandising across more than 1,750 stores. As a result, Korea Seven expects to realize economic efficiencies as well as increased customer satisfaction and sales from more effective marketing and merchandise management. Since 2002, Korea Seven has used its Teradata intelligence platform to support financial reporting and business operations.

Teradata Professional Services will assist with development of the new merchandising system that will make it easier for employees to work cooperatively and allow Korea Seven merchandise managers to better analyze new products and pricing, plan events, calculate target purchasing and inventory pricing, and manage target earning rates and sales.

“The expanded Teradata system will more precisely manage the complexity of our products and events by comparing and analyzing the system’s index figures and metrics,” said Gi-cheol Jang, director of the product division of Korea Seven. “Our merchandising activities can be thoroughly evaluated to improve product management techniques. Ultimately, this will enable more accurate, efficient and effective merchandising practices and lead to an increase in store sales.”

“Clearly, a technology advancement of this magnitude involves real time access to detail data and powerful analytics. Teradata’s platform will enable the deep visibility, speed and accuracy of business intelligence required for merchandising excellence,” said Mr. Moon-Seok Yoon, president of Teradata Korea. Lotte Data Communication Company participated as a systems integration partner in this project, with responsibility for computer facilities operations and project development support. The Korea Seven expansion was just completed.

On February 6, 2009, Teradata was ranked the industry’s number one enterprise data warehouse platform in the “Current Offering” category by Forrester Research in “The Forrester Wave™: Enterprise Data Warehousing Platforms, Q1 2009,” authored by James Kobielus, senior analyst, data warehousing. Forrester’s WAVE for EDW report is available for download.

Teradata was positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Leaders Quadrant in the 2008 “Magic Quadrant for Data Warehouse Database Management Systems” authored by Donald Feinberg and Mark A. Beyer. Teradata was similarly positioned a leader in the database and server analysis “Gartner Server Evaluation Model Toolkit 5 for 2008.”

Teradata’s steadily growing momentum in the global retail business includes such organizations as Ace Hardware, American Eagle Outfitters, Cabela’s, Carrefour, COOP UK, Cortefiel, CVS, Giant Tiger, Groupe Casino, Haggen Stores, Hallmark, Limited Brands, Lund Foods, JC Penney, hhgregg, Hudson’s Bay Company, Isetan, Lowe’s, Macy’s, Migros Switzerland, Overstock.com, Sheetz, Tesco, Timberland, and Winn-Dixie as well as the world’s leading hypermarket, supermarket and discount stores.
