A
one-day strike called by drivers and transport operators affected Luzon
and central Philippines where commuters were briefly stranded in Metro
Manila.
The drivers and operators are demanding a nine peso (7 fils) roll-back in fuel prices. Authorities cancelled classes in all towns and cities in Albay and Lagaspi City as the transport strike began at nine in the morning.
"Residents were advised not to go out. They listened. The streets were quiet and no one was stranded," Albay provincial police chief Senior Superintendent William Macavinta said.
Transport groups in Bicol's Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes all boasted of 80 to 85 per cent successful transport strike.
