The Cebu Chamber Commerce & Industry has been inviting independent oil companies to set up service
stations in Cebu to increase market competition and bring down prices.
Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) president Samuel
Chioson said “There are 223 stations owned by the Big 3 and there are
only 21 stations owned by other independent companies. Seaoil has
been a recent addition which just opened their first outlet in Mandaue.”
Chioson said they identified other companies that are still not in
Cebu. “We will help them in every possible way we could like
identifying areas where they can setup the station because that's one
very important factor to consider when setting up a service station.
The area should have high traffic,” he added. According to Chioson,
there is no problem looking for local franchisees because several
Cebu businessmen are interested and have applied for franchisee.
The only problem is location. “They (independent oil companies) are
actually looking at high traffic areas outside of Metro Cebu area as
most of the Big 3 stations are saturated in the within the area.”
