Smart Stream Resources Sdn Bhd plans to set up another 50 mini petrol pumps in Felda and Felcra clusters in the next five years.
Currently there are 56 petrol stations operating in the 400 odd
clusters, of which half are handled by Felda and Felcra cooperatives
and the rest by individuals.
An average petrol station supplying some 50,000 litres of petrol in a month can cost between RM150,000 to RM200,000 to set up.
"This initiative is part of the ministry's effort to encourage more
cooperatives to get involved in more lucrative businesses," Suruhanjaya
Koperasi Malaysia (SKM) chairman Datuk Mansor Saad told local reporters in
Kuala Lumpur this week.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs appointed
Smart Stream to oversee the development of petrol stations in Felda and
Felcra clusters in December 2007.
Smart Stream is the official supplier of petroleum products to Felda
and Felcra clusters nationwide. Its main supplier for the products is
Esso Malaysia Bhd.
