PetrolWorld Business Forum in Langakwi, Malaysia.
Depending on the size and location, the group will spend between RM5
million and RM10 million for a conventional or a super-station.
Mohd Fadzlan Abdul Samad , Senior GM said Petronas Dagangan hopes
to open at least one hyper-station a year and upgrade 10 of its station
to offer Mesra Drive-Thru service this year. There are currently
four hyper-stations located in Bukit Antarabangsa, Taman Setiawangsa,
Ampang Jaya and Langkawi. A hyper-station covers two-acre of land, with
facilities like a hypermarket, automated teller machine service and
Mesra kiosk.
"A hyper-station is a destination in itself. People tend to go to
petrol station while on the way to their destination, but with a
hyper-station, consumers are able to refuel and shop for groceries at
the same time," said Mohd Fadzlan. He said Petronas Dagangan has seen a
30 per cent increase in fuel volume and Mesra kiosk sales at all its
four hyper-stations. The first hyper-station was opened in 2003 at
Taman Setiawangsa.
Petronas Dagangan jhas also launched its new Mesra loyalty card
programme, after its partnership with Real Rewards ended. The new
loyalty programme allows customers to make instant redemption as well
as exclusive lifestyle privileges like discounts at the Aquaria KLCC,
the Impiana KLCC Hotel and Spa, the Petrosains-The Discovery Centre and
the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mohd Fadzlan said the group will continuously upgrade its business by
working with more partners in future. While its partnership with
Real Rewards has been successful, he said it would like to take control
of the rewards the company can offer to customers. Petronas Dagangan has 1.4 million Mesra cardholders under its
partnership with Real Rewards. To date, about half of them have
switched to the new card Mesra.
David Egan and Thomas Holland of PetrolWorld, who were guests of
Petronas Dagangan in Kuala Lumpur, have visited a number of the special
projects developed by Petronas Dagangan which has included the Mesra
Drive Thru and Petronas Hyper-stations.
