A
former Petronas service station dealer-turned-politician Datuk Jahid
Jahim said all Petronas service stations in Sabah were 100 per cent
owned by locals. He said this showed the commitment and seriousness on
the part of Petronas to really help and nurture Sabahans to succeed in
the fuel retail business.
"In my experience of more than 10 years in running a Petronas service station before venturing into politics in 2004, I must say I really enjoyed the benefits of being part of Malaysia's leading fuel retail network." Jahid, who is now youth and sports state assistant minister, also thanked the national oil corporation for making Sabah a priority. He said one of the advantages of becoming a service station dealer was that Petronas handled everything about advertising. "This means you don't have to spend a single cent on advertising. Petrol is everybody's necessity and you make more profits if you sell more every day.
The timing of the news is significant as Chevron who operate the Caltex brand have initiated programmes in South East Asia to enhance the role of dealer operated sites. Also with Petron taking over the ExxonMobil business means we can see further change in the Malaysian fuel retail business over the coming years.
