ExxonMobil subsidiaries in Malaysia plan to phase out their Mobil
service stations nationwide within three years, rebranding them into
Esso petrol stations.
Esso Malaysia Bhd (Esso) and ExxonMobil Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Mobil) are
subsidiaries of ExxonMobil in Malaysia, which in turn is owned by
ExxonMobil Corp. As part of the plan, convenience stores attached
to the Esso and Mobil petrol stations, now under the name "Tiger Mart"
and "Mobil Mart" respectively will be known as "On the Run" in future.
Esso Malaysia Bhd retail business director Faridah Ali said this was
part of the company's move to rebrand its petrol stations and
convenience stores as well as oil tankers. The process of
rebranding was initiated during 2008. "Last year, we completed
rebranding some 50 Mobil stations in Johor Baru. This year we have
started to rebrand our Mobil stations in the Klang Valley, including
Selangor.
"We hope we would be able to complete rebranding the balance of 150
Mobil service stations in the network in one or two years, Our original
plan is to complete rebranding in three years, but we like the progress
that is taking shape and will try to expedite it to see how fast we can
complete rebranding in Klang Valley and Selangor.”
At present, Esso Malaysia has about 540 Esso and Mobil stations in
Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah. With regards to the opening of new
service stations, Faridah said the company expects to start up between
10 and 12 new Esso outlets this year.
