Toyota Motor Corporation plans to offer a plant-based biofuel within ten years, according to the Nikkei Business Daily. The automaker will work to develop low-cost technologies to produce the biofuel, according to the newspaper, over the next four to five years.
The company has not ruled out partnering with energy companies for mass production, said the newspaper, as it is aware of the significant capital requirements the plan would have. Toyota’s intention is to produce a fuel that can compete directly with gasoline on price, according to the report.
