Balikpapan District Attorney's Office in East Kalimantan is questioning
top officials at the local state-owned oil company PT Pertamina in an
alleged corruption case.
The office's head of the special crime unit, Jhoni Pardede, told local
media that the officials were being questioned as witnesses in the
case. Prosecutors are investigating the alleged misuse of company
assets which led to corruption between 2004 and 2009.
The case began when Pertamina allowed four houses, that were company
assets, to be used as a profit-oriented health clinic by the Istiqomah
Foundation. Prosecutors claim the profit went to the owners of
the foundation, which is not permitted under existing laws and
regulations. Pertamina should have received the profit from the
use of any company assets.
