Pertamina has begun the rollout of self-service fuelling in its retail network, installing its second self-service pump at a station in Gading Serpong. The option will soon be rolled out in Jakarta, Bekasi, Bogor and Tangerang, according to the company.
Djaelani Sutomo, Pertamina’s Director of Marketing and Trade, said the new option would give customers peace of mind that they are receiving their money’s worth of fuel. “Customers can buy gasoline by themselves without having to worry about employees at the station,’’ he remarked.
With the new facility at the Gading Serpong station, drivers can pay with a credit or debit card at the pump or pre-pay at a convenience store inside. Sutomo said the company plans to install self-service pumps at eight sites next year, including Lippo Karawaci in Karawaci subdistrict, Tangerang; the Jababeka industrial estate in West Java and Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta.
The Chairman of the Association of Oil and Gas Entrepreneurs, Eri Purnomohadi, welcomed the initiative. He remarked that self-service pumps would enable more accurate data about fuel consumption to be collected. Moreover, Purnomohadi added, they would give greater oversight and control if fuel subsidies were removed.
