Pertamina has confirmed that it is interested in acquiring PT Petronas Niaga's network in the country. Petronas officially announced last week that it will close 15 of its 19 stations in Indonesia having not operated them since August.
Pertamina said that purchasing service stations from its competitors makes more sense economically than starting from scratch and working through the steps. "As long as the price to purchase the assets fits with our calculation and the fuel stations are situated in strategic locations, of course we are interested," commented Hanung Budya, Pertamina's marketing director.
According to local media in Jakarta, a government spokesperson has said that it would encourage Pertamina to purchase the network. It can also be assumed that Shell and Total will be interested in the network.
