Oil Corp will open Art Insight at its Kadri service station in
Mangalore on 1st September as part of its golden jublee Celebrations.
A visit to Kadri service station of Indian Oil Corporation will
truly be an artistic experience, come September 1. The public sector oil
major in an initiative that is being touted as the first of its kind in
India, is preparing to give an artistic gift as part of its golden
jubilee celebration. September 1, which also is celebrated as Indian
Oil Day, will see a 150 square feet art gallery being inaugurated at
the Kadri service station.
V S Swaroop, manager (retail sales), IOC, Mangalore division, told local media that the service station will be the first
IOC outlet in India to host a permanent art gallery -- Art
Insight. The art gallery will display paintings, terracotta artefacts,
murals and handicraft items. Swaroop said this initiative of IOC under
its corporate social responsibility would be a boon to young and
upcoming artists.
Located in the midst of an elite residential neighbourhood, the
gallery will be frequented by the affluent section of society, who
Swaroop said was the target group. "We have an average daily footfall
of 2,000 customers, and even if a small percentage of them take time
off to visit the gallery, our effort will be worth it," he explained.
If this initiative takes off, more petrol stations of IOC will go the
Kadri service station way, he said.
Art Insight is being set up and run by S S Creations, a local
event management firm on a rental basis. Noting that this is a unique
experiment for IOC, Swaroop said this is the first time a novel concept
of this type is being promoted in the city, and even in the country.
The main objective of the initiative, apart from promoting local
artistic talent in the coastal part of the state, is also to create a
flourishing market for art among the public.
Interestingly, this service station has several other facilities
that makes it a ‘one-stop' solution. If you need a quick stitch, dash
off to the tailor on its premises. There is a doctor on hand in the
evenings to attend to your minor sniffles, cold and cough and a variety
of other ailments. It also houses an emission-testing centre to round
off the list of facilities. Most importantly, the service station also
dispenses auto fuel, Swaroop reminds.
