India’s GAIL has been named as the world’s number 1 company in downstream operation for 2011 at the most recent Platts Global Energy Awards, held in New York. The company was recognised for its year on year growth, ensuring supply to customers and contributions to economic growth. Judges also commended the company’s plan to extract natural gas from urban landfills.
Gail, the only company from Asia to win a Platts award, was among 21 companies and executives in the oil and gas sector to receive recognition at the event. The awards, currently in their 13th year, are organised to recognise and encourage innovation and leadership, along with low carbon sustainability initiatives. Petrobras (winner of the Energy Company of the Year and Energy Producer of the Year awards), Shell (Construction Project of the Year) and Andrew Liveris (CEO of the Year) were among the other winners.
