While local media have mentioned an extension to 1st July, it has now
emerged that 1st October is a preferred date for some refiners.
According to local media sources, the Petroleum Ministry has already
written to Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and Bharat
Petroleum Corporation, to take the lead with the Supreme Court and get
the deadline extended to July 1.
The reality now is that Bharat Stage IV petrol and diesel will be
available from April 1 in the 14 metro cities earmarked for the
purpose. Should the situation arise that both fuel types have to be
supplied, would create fuel distribution problems for the
wholesalers. We can expect to see the Petroleum Ministry seek an
official extension to the deadline over the coming period.
