Has the dust settles after the ACCC decision from last week, it has
been reported in local media that Gull Petroleum in Western Australia
remains interested in purchasing part of the Exxonmobil service station
network.
Hopes that Caltex Australia could still take over ExxonMobil’s local
retail operations if 53 key sites were excluded have been dashed, with
ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel saying a potential takeover would still be
rejected on the grounds that Caltex would have the ability to lead
pricing in the price cycle.
According to the Sydney
Morning Herald , Gull Australia is still interested in buying some of
ExxonMobil’s petrol stations. Gull Australia, which has operations in
WA and New Zealand, had expressed interest in the assets before Exxon
announced its deal with Caltex.
