Drivers
will now have the opportunity to fill their own fuel in the Fiji
service station network.
The Fiji Fuel Retailers Association today announced that service stations will soon be switching to self-service operations. President Baljeet Singh says the move is a major cost cutting measure to ensure the survival of the local fuel industry.
The switch will see the loss of jobs for 400 employees but arrangements have been made for redundancy payments. Singh says fuel service station owners will be working closely with customers to ensure a smooth transition to self-service.
“Our members are committed to working closely with our customers to assist them to adapt to change. They will receive educational literature and advice. There will also be a media advertising campaign.” Service stations will be switching to self-service from 20th October.
